H3C is a major Chinese networking company, making both enterprise equipment and the consumer Magic series of home routers. The detail that catches people out is the address: H3C’s home routers use the unusual default 192.168.124.1, rather than the 192.168.1.1 most brands use. The common credentials are admin/admin, with newer units using the details on the label. This guide covers the H3C router login, the address variations, and how to change your Wi-Fi.

How to Log In to an H3C Router

  1. Connect your computer to the router, ideally with an Ethernet cable into a LAN port. Many H3C routers support blind plugging, meaning any port works, but a LAN port is the safe choice. A phone connected to the router’s Wi-Fi also works.
  2. Open a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
  3. Click the address bar at the top of the browser and type 192.168.124.1, then press Enter. If that does not load, try 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, which some models and the enterprise lines use.
  4. Enter the username and password. See the next section.
  5. Click Login to reach the router settings.

Default Username and Password

H3C model typeLogin addressUsernamePassword
Magic series (home)192.168.124.1adminadmin
Some units192.168.124.1(label)(label)
Enterprise models192.168.1.1adminadmin

The most common H3C default is admin for both the username and password. Many newer Magic units instead have their initial credentials printed on the nameplate sticker on the bottom of the router, which is the definitive source, and some prompt you to create a management password at first setup. The login is case-sensitive.

The default Wi-Fi details for first connection are also on that label.

Why 192.168.124.1?

Worth a word, since it explains the confusion. H3C chose the 192.168.124.x range for its home routers, which almost no other brand uses, as our default router IP address list shows. The router sits at 192.168.124.1, and your devices get addresses like 192.168.124.100. So if you tried 192.168.1.1 and nothing loaded, that is why: on an H3C home network, the gateway is 192.168.124.1. The same kind of surprise applies to Prolink routers, which sit at 192.168.123.254.

How to Change Your H3C Wi-Fi Name and Password

  1. Log in at 192.168.124.1.
  2. Open Wireless Settings, sometimes under a Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Enter your new network name in the Wi-Fi Name field.
  4. Enter your new password in the Wi-Fi Password field.
  5. Click Apply.

For dual-band routers, configure the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks separately. After saving, every device drops off the Wi-Fi and reconnects with the new key. Use a password of at least 12 characters with no personal details.

What to Do If You Cannot Log In

The page will not load. Confirm you are connected to the H3C router and using the right address.

  • Try 192.168.124.1 first, then 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1.
  • Confirm your gateway. On Windows, press Windows + R, type cmd, run ipconfig, and read the “Default Gateway” line, or ping 192.168.124.1 to check the router responds. Our guide on how to find your router’s IP address covers every device.

The password is rejected. Try admin/admin, then check the nameplate on the bottom of the router for your unit’s initial credentials. If you created a management password at setup and forgot it, a reset is the way back.

Set your device to obtain an IP automatically. If your computer has a static IP from a previous setup, it may be on the wrong subnet for the 192.168.124.x range. Switch to obtaining an address automatically.

Make sure you are connected to the router. The admin page only loads from within your own network, not over mobile data or a VPN.

How to Reset an H3C Router to Factory Settings

A factory reset erases everything and restores the default login. Use it only when locked out.

  1. With the router powered on, find the recessed Reset button.
  2. Use a pin or paperclip to press and hold it for about 5 to 10 seconds, until the lights change.
  3. Release and wait a minute or two for the router to restart.
  4. Log in at 192.168.124.1 with admin/admin or the label credentials, then set up the router again.

Wrapping Up

The key to an H3C login is the address: the Magic home routers use 192.168.124.1, a range almost no other brand touches, which is why the usual addresses fail. Sign in with admin/admin or the credentials on the nameplate, and remember the enterprise models live at 192.168.1.1 instead. Once you are in, change the default login and set a strong Wi-Fi password, and a quick gateway check with ipconfig resolves any address doubt in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default username and password for an H3C router?

The most common default is admin for both, at 192.168.124.1. Many newer Magic units print their initial credentials on the nameplate sticker on the bottom instead, and some ask you to create a password at first setup. Check the label for your exact unit.

What is the default IP address for an H3C router?

H3C home routers, the Magic series, use the unusual address 192.168.124.1. Enterprise models more commonly use 192.168.1.1. If neither loads, confirm your gateway with ipconfig on Windows and use the address it shows.

Why does my H3C router use 192.168.124.1?

H3C chose the 192.168.124.x range for its home routers, which almost no other brand uses. The router takes 192.168.124.1 and your devices get addresses above it. That is why trying the usual 192.168.1.1 gets you nowhere on an H3C home network.

How do I change my H3C Wi-Fi password?

Log in at 192.168.124.1, open Wireless Settings, enter a new Wi-Fi name and password, and click Apply. On dual-band models, set the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks separately. Devices reconnect with the new details after saving.

Is H3C a home or business brand?

Both. H3C is a major enterprise networking company, and its Magic series covers home routers. The home units use 192.168.124.1 with simple web management, while enterprise gear uses different addresses and more advanced interfaces.

I forgot my H3C password. What can I do?

A factory reset restores the defaults. Hold the recessed Reset button for about 5 to 10 seconds until the lights change, then log in with admin/admin or the label credentials at 192.168.124.1. This erases all settings, so you will set up the router again.
