Login to your Actiontec router

Opens your router's admin login page. Works only on your own network.

Actiontec makes DSL and fiber modem-routers, most often supplied by internet providers, which is why so many people have one from Verizon Fios or CenturyLink. The login address is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, and the default credentials vary by model, commonly admin/password or admin/admin. This guide covers the login, the addresses and passwords to try, and how to reset.

How to Log In to an Actiontec Router

  1. Connect your computer to the router, ideally with an Ethernet cable into a LAN port. A wired connection avoids being logged off when you save changes.
  2. Open a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
  3. Click the address bar at the top of the browser and type your router’s address, then press Enter. The most common are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. Some older models use 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.2.1.
  4. Enter the username and password. See the next section.
  5. Click OK or Login.

Default Username and Password

Actiontec defaults vary by model, so try these in order.

Login addressUsernamePassword
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1adminpassword
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1adminadmin
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1admin(blank)

The username is nearly always admin. The password is most commonly password or admin, and on some models it is blank. If you have a Verizon or provider unit, the credentials are frequently printed on a sticker on the router, sometimes as a unique password or WPA key, which is the definitive source. The login is case-sensitive, so use lowercase unless the label shows otherwise.

For many Verizon Fios Actiontec models, the specific default is admin with the password admin, though Verizon has also used a unique password printed on the label, so always check the sticker first. For the defaults other brands use, see our default router passwords list.

How to Change Your Actiontec Wi-Fi Name and Password

  1. Log in at your router’s address.
  2. Find the Wireless Settings section, often under a Wireless or Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Enter your new network name in the SSID field.
  4. Enter your new Wi-Fi password in the WPA/WEP key or Pre-Shared Key field.
  5. Save or apply the change.

After saving, every device drops off the Wi-Fi and reconnects with the new key. Use a password of at least 12 characters with no personal details. Our full guide on how to change your Wi-Fi password walks through it for any router.

What to Do If You Cannot Log In

The page will not load. Confirm you are using the right address. Try 192.168.0.1, then 192.168.1.1, then 192.168.1.254.

  • Confirm your gateway. On Windows, press Windows + R, type cmd, run ipconfig, and read the “Default Gateway” line. If it still will not open, see our guide on what to do when you cannot access the router web interface.
  • Check your cabling. Make sure the internet source is on the WAN port and your computer is plugged into a LAN port.

The password is rejected. Work through admin/password, admin/admin, and admin with a blank password. Then check the sticker on the router, since provider units often use a unique password. Remember the login is case-sensitive.

Make sure you are connected to the router. The admin page only loads from within your own network, not over mobile data or a VPN.

How to Reset an Actiontec Router to Factory Settings

A factory reset erases everything: the Wi-Fi name and password, the admin password, and all settings. Reset only when you are locked out.

  1. With the router powered on, find the recessed Reset button on the back.
  2. Use a pin or paperclip to press and hold it for about 10 to 15 seconds, until the lights blink.
  3. Release and wait a few minutes for the router to restart.
  4. Log in with the default credentials for your model, or the ones on the label.

An important caution for provider equipment: resetting a Verizon or CenturyLink Actiontec unit can clear settings needed for your internet service, such as your connection profile. Contact your provider before resetting, since they may need to reconfigure the router afterward.

Wrapping Up

Logging in to an Actiontec router means going to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and entering admin with the password password or admin, though the most reliable credentials are on the sticker, especially for Verizon Fios and CenturyLink units. If the page will not load, confirm your gateway and try the other common addresses. And because these are usually provider-supplied, contact your internet provider before resetting, since a reset can disconnect the router from their service.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default username and password for an Actiontec router?

The username is almost always admin. The password is most often password or admin, and blank on some models. Provider-supplied units, such as Verizon Fios models, frequently use a unique password printed on the sticker, which is the most reliable source.

What is the default IP address for an Actiontec router?

Most commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Some older models use 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.2.1. If none load, confirm your gateway with ipconfig on Windows and use the address it shows.

What is the login for a Verizon Fios Actiontec router?

Try admin with the password admin, then admin/password. Verizon has also shipped units with a unique password on the sticker, so check the label on the router first. The address is usually 192.168.1.1 for Fios models.

admin does not work on my Actiontec router. What now?

Work through admin/password, admin/admin, and admin with a blank password, all in lowercase. Then check the sticker on the router for a unique password, common on provider units. If nothing works and you are locked out, a factory reset restores the default, but contact your provider first.

How do I change my Actiontec Wi-Fi password?

Log in at your router's address, open the Wireless Settings section, enter a new SSID, and put your new password in the WPA key or Pre-Shared Key field, then save. Devices will reconnect with the new details. Use a strong password of at least 12 characters.

Should I reset my Verizon Actiontec router if I am locked out?

Only as a last resort. Because it is provider equipment, a reset can clear settings needed for your Fios service. Try all the default combinations and the sticker credentials first, and contact Verizon before resetting, since they may need to reconfigure it.
