Login to your DrayTek router

Opens your router's admin login page. Works only on your own network.

DrayTek makes the Vigor series of routers, popular with small businesses and technical home users. To log in, you go to 192.168.1.1 in a browser and sign in with admin as both the username and password. One detail worth knowing up front: DrayTek recommends using the https prefix, and if you forget your admin password, there is no way to recover it. This guide covers the login, the older model defaults, and how to fix access problems.

How to Log In to a DrayTek Vigor Router

  1. Connect your computer to the router, ideally with an Ethernet cable into a LAN port.
  2. Open a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
  3. Click the address bar at the top of the browser, the bar that shows the web address. Do not use the search box.
  4. Type https://192.168.1.1 and press Enter. DrayTek specifically recommends the https prefix, because it encrypts your session so your password cannot be intercepted on the network. Plain http sends your login in clear text.
  5. If a certificate warning appears, continue past it. It is safe on your own network.
  6. Enter the username and password. See the table below.

Default Username and Password for DrayTek Routers

DrayTek modelLogin addressUsernamePassword
Most Vigor routershttps://192.168.1.1adminadmin
Some older models192.168.1.1admin(blank)
Some older models192.168.1.1(blank)(blank)
Some older models192.168.1.1draytek1234

The standard DrayTek default is admin for both the username and password. Older models may use admin with a blank password, both fields blank, or draytek with the password 1234. If your router was supplied by an internet provider rather than bought retail, the credentials may be different from the retail defaults, so check the label or ask your provider.

Different Addresses for Different DrayTek Devices

Not every DrayTek device sits at 192.168.1.1, which is a common reason the page will not load.

  • Most Vigor routers: 192.168.1.1
  • Vigor 130 modem: 192.168.2.1
  • DrayTek access points: these receive an address automatically from your network. If they cannot, they fall back to 192.168.1.2.

If you are trying to reach an access point rather than the main router, check your router’s device list for its current address.

Important: There Is No Password Recovery

This is the detail that catches people out, so it is worth being clear. DrayTek states that if you have forgotten or do not know your admin password, there is no way to recover it. Your options are to find whoever set the password, or to factory reset the router.

A reset erases all settings, and you will need to configure the router from scratch. Note that restoring a configuration backup will also restore the unknown password, so a backup does not help you get back in. Because of this, record your DrayTek admin password somewhere safe, such as a password manager, as soon as you set it. Our guide on recovering a router’s password covers the general options, but DrayTek’s no-recovery policy makes prevention especially important here.

What to Do If You Cannot Reach the Login Page

DrayTek routers have several specific reasons the page may not load, and they are worth knowing.

The IP address was changed. The default is 192.168.1.1, but it can be changed. Confirm your actual gateway by pressing Windows + R, typing cmd, running ipconfig, and reading the “Default Gateway” line, or find your gateway’s IP on any device.

The TCP port was changed. By default the web interface uses the standard port, but if that was changed, you need to add the port to the address, for example http://192.168.1.1:88.

Plain HTTP is disabled. Many DrayTek setups disable unencrypted access, so you must use the https prefix. Try https://192.168.1.1.

An admin Access Control List is set. DrayTek routers can restrict admin access to specific IP addresses. If an ACL is in place, check that the device you are using is on the permitted list.

Your device is on a different subnet. Your computer needs an address in the same range as the router. If the router is 192.168.1.1, your PC should be something like 192.168.1.10. This is normally automatic, but if the router’s DHCP has failed, you may need to set your computer’s address manually.

An IP conflict. Make sure no other device on the network is using the same address as the router.

How to Reset a DrayTek Router to Factory Settings

Because there is no password recovery, a reset is the only way back in if you have lost your admin password. It erases all settings.

  1. With the router powered on, find the Reset or Factory Reset button on the back.
  2. Press and hold it for about 10 to 15 seconds, until the ACT LED blinks rapidly.
  3. Release and wait a few minutes for the router to restart.
  4. Log in at https://192.168.1.1 with admin and admin, then set a new password and record it.

Conclusion

Logging in to a DrayTek Vigor router means going to https://192.168.1.1 and entering admin and admin, with older models using a few other combinations. Use the https prefix as DrayTek recommends, since it encrypts your session and plain http may be disabled anyway. Most importantly, record your admin password somewhere safe once you set it, because DrayTek offers no password recovery, and a forgotten password means wiping the router and starting over.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default username and password for a DrayTek router?

For most Vigor routers, both the username and password are admin. Older models may use admin with a blank password, both fields blank, or draytek with the password 1234. Provider-supplied units may have different credentials from retail models.

Why does DrayTek recommend https instead of http?

Because https encrypts your session using SSL, so your login details cannot be intercepted by anyone else on the network. With plain http, everything you type, including your password, passes across the network in clear text and could be captured.

I forgot my DrayTek admin password. How do I recover it?

You cannot. DrayTek states there is no way to recover a forgotten admin password, so your only options are to find whoever set it or perform a factory reset, which erases all settings. Note that restoring a config backup restores the unknown password too, so it does not help.

192.168.1.1 will not open my DrayTek router. What should I try?

Use the https prefix, since plain http may be disabled. Confirm your actual gateway with ipconfig, check whether the web port was changed (add it like :88 to the address), and make sure no admin Access Control List is blocking your device.

What address does the Vigor 130 use?

The Vigor 130 modem uses 192.168.2.1 rather than the 192.168.1.1 used by most Vigor routers. DrayTek access points get their address automatically, falling back to 192.168.1.2 if they cannot.

Can I log in to my DrayTek router from my phone?

Yes. Connect to the router's Wi-Fi, open a browser, type https://192.168.1.1, and enter your credentials. The web interface works on a phone, though a computer with a wired connection is easier for detailed configuration.
